SUMMARY:Women-in-Business
DESCRIPTION:The Lexington Chamber of Commerce with the generous support of Cambridge Savings Bank and Youville Place present The Women-in-Business Series. This event series includes a segment of around-the-table introductions followed by a featured guest speaker. In addition to facilitated professional networking\, the series places a particular emphasis on learning from one another and sharing work experiences in a friendly\, open environment. This event will include admission and a full lunch. \n\n \n\nAt our December 6th session\, we will hear remarks from Sona Antonyan.\n\nSona Antonyan was born in Yerevan\, Armenia and developed an interest in math at an early age after observing her parents' dedication to a career in math education.\n\n \n\nSona graduated from the Yerevan State University with a Master's in Mathematics and Pedagogy\, intent on following her parents' footsteps. After working in the public school system in Armenia for a few years\, Sona immigrated to the United States with her husband and attained her second Master's Degree at Boston College in Educational Research\, Measurements\, and Evaluations. During this time Sona also supervised Student Teachers pursuing their teaching degrees at B.C.\n\n \n\nUpon discovering the Russian School of Mathematics (RSM)\, Sona was struck by the similarity of the RSM classroom to how mathematics was taught back home\, and jumped at the opportunity to teach. Passionate about this approach as the way mathematics should be taught\, Sona began to train and observe RSM teachers a year later\, and opened RSM-Lexington in 2009. \n\n \n\nThe Russian School of Mathematics is one of the fastest growing after-school math programs in the Northeast\, and Sona proudly serves as the principal of both the Lexington and Belmont branches.
